UTaipei Students Participate in the 2026 Daegu International Youth Camp, Gaining Valuable Cross-cultural Experiences

To broaden students’ international perspectives and enhance their cross-cultural communication skills, University of Taipei selected and recommended two students to participate in the 2026 Daegu International Youth Camp, hosted by the Daegu Metropolitan Government, with Daegu being one of Taipei City’s sister cities. Held from June 28 to July 3 in Daegu, South Korea, the camp brought together university students from various sister and partner cities around the world. Through Korean language classes, cultural experiences, company and city visits, teamwork activities, and international exchange opportunities, participants developed mutual understanding and built lasting friendships across cultures.

The camp featured a wide variety of educational and cultural programs, including Korean language classes, lectures on Korean culture, traditional tea ceremony experiences, Hanbok wearing, K-pop dance lessons, Taekwondo, and traditional bracelet-making workshops. Participants also learned basic Korean conversation, regional dialects, and Korean customs and traditions, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of Korean language, culture, and daily life while enhancing their intercultural awareness.

The program also included visits to Samsung-related facilities, where participants learned about the company’s history, corporate philosophy, and spirit of innovation. These visits provided valuable insights into the development of South Korea’s technology industry and its global competitiveness. In addition, students explored major attractions and cultural sites in Daegu, experienced Korea’s coffee culture, and participated in the Daegu Chimac Festival, allowing them to appreciate Daegu’s unique blend of historical heritage, modern development, local culture, and industrial characteristics.

The camp adopted a multicultural team-based format, bringing together students from different countries and cities to participate in classes, collaborative projects, and cultural exchange activities. Using English as the primary language of communication, participants shared their cultures, daily lives, and learning experiences while building meaningful friendships across borders. The participating students noted that learning alongside peers from diverse cultural backgrounds not only strengthened their English communication skills and intercultural competence, but also helped them develop a more open-minded and inclusive perspective toward different cultures. They agreed that the most valuable aspect of international exchange lies in mutual respect, sharing, and collaboration.

Through the camp, the students gained a deeper understanding of Korean culture, industrial development, and the unique characteristics of Daegu, while accumulating valuable international experience. They also recognized the importance of actively engaging with people from different cultural backgrounds. From classroom learning and cultural immersion to building friendships with young people from around the world, every activity enriched their learning experience and laid a solid foundation for future international engagement and global mobility.

University of Taipei remains committed to encouraging students to participate in overseas exchange opportunities. Through partnerships with sister cities and international partners, the University provides diverse global learning experiences that foster international perspectives, intercultural communication skills, and global competitiveness. Looking ahead, the Office of International Affairs will continue to promote a wide range of international exchange programs, supporting students in engaging with the world and expanding opportunities for international learning and development.
